A woman charged over a racist rant on a Melbourne train in April has appeared in court.
South Melbourne woman Peta Nugent, 37, is charged with four offences, including using profane language, two counts of behaving in a riotous manner and using obscene and offensive language aboard a Metro train travelling between Parliament and North Melbourne.
The matter was adjourned to July 23 and her bail extended.
Videos of the tirade, posted online by commuters who had been travelling in the same carriage, a woman screaming at a dark-skinned man and saying "it’s my f---ing country" and "this is what us original Aussies fought for ... to keep you black c---s out."
The video also shows other passengers denouncing her comments, with a blond man saying: "If this is your country, then I don’t f---ing want to be here."
As the woman continues to yell, another man says "shut up, you stupid bitch".
She appears to be surprised by the response then retorts: "everyone is calling me racist ... I’m called a racist in my own f---ing country".
