标题: Graduate Program (sharing BDO AC experience)
本帖最后由 rosszhu 于 2012-10-17 18:11 编辑

Is there anyone here who wants to share some experience on the process of the Application for Graduate Program offer?
Very upset about it as it is the best opportunity for fresh graduates like my self and I could not handle it very well.
I applied for Graduate Programs several weeks ago. One is with the Bendigo Bank. I passed the online test but was unsuccessful for the phone interview.

The other one is BDO. A couple weeks ago I got a phone call from their recruitment team and was asked several questions. Two days later I was invited to attend an online test through an email. Having passed it, I was invited to the Assessment Center of the company. I went there last Thursday and took the written assessment. There were totally 20ish candidates there on that day and only 2 of them inculding myself were Chinese. The otheres were either local Australians or ABCs. The information session lasted for about an hour. The staffs introduced the process of the Graudate Program and the interesting life in BDO. After that, we were given a senario and asked to present the approach that we would take. I thought it was more like a test examing our written communication skills, and therefore, I don't think I could make a further setp into the next stage of the recruitment process. It is extremly hard for Chinese to compete English skills agianst native speakers. I did not get any notice on Friday so I dont anticipate I could pass this round. Anyway, it was a great experience for me, which help me figure out that my Englishi is still my weakness although I achieved four 7s and overal 8 in IELTS test. Hopefully, I could get another chance and do it a lot better.

Can anyone else share some experience?
If the Chinese girl I met on Thurday in the BDO Assessment Center saw this post, please contact me via messege.
It would be great to have some one discuss on the way of getting our first offer in Austrlia.

So, at the stage you get into the assessment center, you are a Australian PR already right?

No. My application is still pending. This was asked when BDO HR did the phone screening. I told them when I lodged the application and when I expected that it would be granted. It seems that it is not a big issue for them. However, it is a big issue for Big 4. Actually, this is the only reason why I have not applied for any Graduate Program with Big 4.

BTW, comparing to the information I acquired one year before, all Big 4 have increased their IELTS requriement for international students. By that I mean four 7s or overall 8 is not the destination while it is the time to aiming four 8s if international students want to apply for the graduate positions at Big 4.

I supposed, when you are getting to the next interview, your residency status must be ready for further stage. I believe that is the point.

Big 4 won't pick anyone without PR visa. I'm not sure about the IELTS newest requirement. IELTS is changing syllabus soon, and I think it is no longer an issue in the future.

What do you mean by 'IELTS is changing syllabus soon'?

I'm not pretty sure of that, but IELTS will not be a case of consider in the future.

How do you know that? Are you working for Big 4?
作者: pinkleopard    时间: 13-10-2012 18:12
My seniors are working with them and said it is not a consideration in the future when the new migration system changes. I am not too sure yet, but will get more faq.

It would be fantastic. If this was the case, more international students would be able to apply for positions in Big 4. I think it would be a great experience for them even they could not be granted an offer at the end. I am always thinking that I should get four 8s in IELTS to back up my application for positions in big companies like Big 4. Anyway, I will take some English course in Tafe once I get my PR. I think it is a bottle neck for me now and I have to overcome it if I want to compete against locals .

Thanks a lot for your information. Hope to get more inside news in the future.

Cheers :)

Thank you.

Well, there is no easy means to achieve a satisfactory score.
According to my experience, reading textbooks and attending lectures in the uni are the most helpful approaches for students to get a high score in reading and listening. This is it. I think this is how I improve it because I did not prepare for listening and reading at all before I took the IELTS tests.

With regard to the speaking and writing, as you can see from my previous posts, they are still my weaknesses now although my highest score for writing and speaking were 7.5.
If you need some advice on these two parts, you can ring me  or send me email. It is too complicated to explain it here.

I believe IELTS isn't a point to worry about it. The most important thing is to do well during the interview. Whatever Big 4 are not the main choices too, there are lots of good firms in Aust and they broad out.

From what I can see in the market, they require professionals and working experience. Therefore, how high the achievement in IELTS will be easily cancelled out if you have nothing on hand.

Get more internships or working experience in small firm will help you to build up your base to work in bigger firms further down.

Cheers!
